3D Printed Copper Sculpture and Light Box
These sculptures were designed and fabricated by us for our art studio Winterworks LLC. The initial design is based on the topography of the Grand Teton and from there we were able to use parametric design and generative processes to achieve the desired form.
Once we had the form in hand, it was rendered to real life in a copper based 3D printing material and hand finished. Due to the nature of the material used, we were able to apply a true copper patina to the exterior.
The lit windows are fabricated from clear acrylic and a color changing film, then laser cut and secured to the sculpture. The material used is one of our favorites and gives a wonderful effect when illuminated with a bright white light.
The base is also designed and fabricated by us consisting of a laser cut exotic wood veneer box, etched acrylic sides, and a custom designed and built lighting system. The components come together to achieve more of the sum of their parts, casting an impressive lightscape within the room.
